What Is an ESA?

Education Savings Accounts — Explained Simply

An Education Savings Account (ESA) is state-funded money that goes directly to your family instead of your local school district. You choose how to spend it — on private school, homeschool curriculum, tutoring, therapy, technology, and more. Think of it like a government-funded education debit card that you control. If your state has an ESA program and Education Interventions is an approved vendor there, your child can receive expert literacy tutoring with little or no cost to you.

ESA Tutoring — FAQ

What is an Education Savings Account (ESA)?

An ESA is state-funded money that goes directly to your family instead of your local school district. Instead of the state paying a public school to educate your child, they put those funds in an account you control — and you decide how to spend them on approved educational expenses including tutoring, curriculum, technology, and more.

Do I have to pay upfront and get reimbursed?

No — because Education Interventions is an approved vendor in your state's ESA program, payments flow directly from your ESA account to us through your state's payment platform (ClassWallet, Student First, or another system). You pay nothing out of pocket for the covered amount.

My child attends public school. Can I still use ESA funds?

Most ESA programs require students to not be enrolled full-time in public school. However some states have programs specifically for public school families, and others allow public school students to access supplemental services. The answer varies by state — contact us and we'll help you understand your specific options.

Does my child need a disability diagnosis to qualify?

It depends on the state. Many programs — including Arizona, Arkansas, West Virginia, and Tennessee's Education Freedom Scholarship — are universally available to all K–12 students regardless of disability status. Others, like North Carolina's ESA+ and Indiana's INESA, are specifically for students with qualifying disabilities. Check your state's program above for specifics.

How much tutoring can my child receive with ESA funds?

Most ESA programs place no cap on how much of your award can go toward tutoring. At Education Interventions' standard rate, most families' annual ESA awards can cover a full year of weekly or twice-weekly sessions. Contact us for a personalized estimate based on your state's funding amount.

What subjects does Education Interventions cover?

We specialize in reading, writing, and spelling — the three core literacy skills. Our certified tutors work with K–12 students at all levels, from early readers building phonics foundations to high schoolers working to close persistent literacy gaps before graduation.

My state isn't on this list. Can you still help?

We are actively pursuing ESA vendor approval in additional states. Contact us with your state and we'll let you know our current status and timeline. We may already be in the approval process for your state — or we can help you explore other options for covering tutoring costs.

Ready to Use Your ESA Funds?

Contact us today. We'll confirm your state's eligibility, walk you through the application process, and get your child matched with a certified tutor — often within the same week.
